JAKARTA – The latest development COVID-19 pandemic management in Indonesia as of February 11, 2021, there are addition 8.435 confirmed positive cases with the number of active cases 166.492 cases or the percentage is 14,0% compared to the world average of 23,7%.  The number recovery cases is 993.117 cases or 83,3% compared to the world average of 74,1%. Total patient death to date, 31,976 cases died or 2,7% compared to the world average of 2,18%.

Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force Prof. Wiku Adisasmito the good news that nearly 1 million patients have recovered from COVID-19. He conveyed the latest developments in the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia through an International Press Briefing, Thursday (11/2/2021) at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, which was broadcast on the YouTube channel of the Presidential Secretariat.

“This is a good news for everyone, and I’,d like to especially thanks to our health worker who have worked tirelessly in this pandemic. The government is fully committed to supporting health workers in any way to ease the burdens they face on a daily basis,” he explained

Furthermore, Wiku explained on the progress of overcoming the weekly pandemic, was heading for a better direction. It is important to look at development from the trend of increasing or decreasing weekly new Cases point’ of view. As this can indicate whether the transmission rate in community ia slowing down or not.

In preventing the rate of transmission, direct and indirect efforts, are important. Direct efforts, namely 3M’s health protocols such as wearing masks, keeping a distance and washing hands by the community. Then indirect efforts are 3T such as testing, tracing and treatment carried out by the government.

Wiku continued to explain that the development of weekly positive cases at the national level had decreased by 10,8% compared to the previous week. This figure reflects a decrease in transmission in the community.  However, the 5 provinces with the highest weekly increase in cases had to improve their handling.

Among them starting from DKI Jakarta, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), North Kalimantan, North Sumatra, and East Kalimantan. Of the five, only DKI Jakarta is from Java Island. “This is a good development, because if you remember during the past 4 weeks, the addition of positive cases was dominated by provinces from the islands of Java and Bali. Of the five provinces, only DKI Jakarta Province originating from the island of Java is still in the top 5 with the highest weekly addition of positive cases,” he continued.

Second, for death cases, there was a decrease of 32% compared to the previous week. This shows that the treatment efforts carried out on COVID-19 patients are in accordance with standards to reduce mortality rates. However, there are 5 provinces that still record highest increase in mortality rates. Namely West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), North Maluku, Jambi, Maluku and Aceh. Furthermore, even provinces originating from Java Island have all left the top 5 in terms of mortality rates. This is a good development. Comparatively, last week, West Java, Central Java and DKI Jakarta were still in the top 5. “This means, 29 other provinces do not experience an increase in mortality. This is a very good development of waste,” he continued.

Furthermore, looking at the development of recovery, the weekly increase has decreased by 4.2%.  There are 5 provinces that recorded the highest increase in recovery.  Namely, DKI Jakarta’s, West Java, East Kalimantan, Lampung and Riau Islands.

“The development in positive Cases and deaths, that have improve this week deserve our apreciation. This positive development is also inline with development of COVID-19 examination and filling of bed in ICU and isolation room in COVID-19 referral hospital,” Wiku said.

Also, since the 2nd week of January, COVID-19 testing in Indonesia have reached 100% of the WHO target, which is 1: 1000 population per week. As of February 7, 2021, testing coverage had reached 106% or 287,131 people were tested in 1 week.

“This is the 5th week in which we have successfully maintained national level screening coverage above the WHO target. Even so, it is still a challenge to even out this coverage for all Provinces in Indonesia, because currently the audit capacity still varies between regions,” Wiku added.

Furthermore, bed occupancy at the national level also shows signs of decline. After witnessing an increase for 3 consecutive months since November 2020, the bed occupancy rate this month has fallen from 58.40% to 52.06%.

And the implementation of Pemberlakuan Pembatasan Kegiatan Masyarakat (PPKM) in the District/City level in the last 4 weeks has shown commendable progress, thus the policy to extend PPKM on micro-basis up to RT/RW level whilst still continuing the former is anticipated to further impact positively towards the COVID-19 developments both at the national level as well as in Java and Bali Island.
